Balloon Flight Instructor extension for instructor training - course overview

The aim of the Flight Instructor (Balloon) extension for Instructor training - so called train the trainer is to train you, as a holder of the FI(B) to the level of competence defined in point BFCL.325 for the training of the future balloon instructor. This FI(B)  extension training complies with the specific requirements referred to BFCL.315(a)(4)(ii) regarding instructional privileges for the balloon instructor certificate FI(B). The course takes approximately 1 day.

The Balloon Flight Instructor extension training to instructor course course consists of 1 flight lasting approximately 1 hour with associated pre-flight and postflight briefing.

The FI(B) extension training for instructor courses FI(B) does not require you to attend the FI(B) assessment of competence with EASA Balloon Flight Examiner.

Briefings

Theoretical Knowledge Instruction consist of single module of Technical training. It is integrated into the long briefing of the flight exercise and taken prior to the training flight. The content of the briefings is consistent with the flight training of the BPL trainings and covers following topics. You will have to observe and brief the flight instructor candidate how to teach following topics:

• Familiarization with the balloon
• Preparation for the flight
• Flight to higher altitude
• Cold descend from higher altitude

Privileges

The privileges of your FI(B) will be extended to be able to provide the training for the future Balloon Flight Instructor - FI(B). The instructor training privileges generally allow the FI(B) holder to provide the trainings for:

• initial issue of FI(B) - Balloon Instructor
• extension of Balloon Instrucor for tethered flights
• extension of Balloon Instrucor for night flights
• extension of Balloon Instrucor for instructor training
