Bombardier CL65 SFI Initial training

Become a CRJ Simulator Instructor ✔️

By attending the CL65 SFI course you will become the Synthetic Flight Instructor with privileges to teach towards the issue and renewal of the CL65 type rating in simulator. Your SFI privileges are basically equal to the privileges of freshly qualified TRI CL65, whose privileges are restricted to simulator.

If it happens anytime in the future you gain 30 route sectors in any of the variants constituting into CL65 type rating you will be automatically issued the TRI CL65 without necessity of any other training or checking.

Overview

SFI CL65 Training overview

The SFI training program is carefully designed to develop safety awareness throughout by imparting knowledge, skills, and attitudes relevant to the SFI function on Bombardier CRJ Series. The course is carefully designed to provide you adequate theoretical-knowledge instruction, technical training and FSTD instruction to be able to instruct others towards CL65 type in simulator.

The CL65 SFI training course consists of three parts:

  • Part 1: 25 hours of Teaching and learning iaw AMC1 FCL.920;
  • Part 2: 10 hours of Technical theoretical knowledge instruction (Technical training);
  • Part 3: 10 hours of Flight instruction in CL65 simulator

The CL65 SFI training is followed by the SFI AoC with EASA CL65 TRE. The validity of the SFI CL65 is 3 years. To revalidate your TRI you need to comply with FCL.940.SFI(a).

Prerequisites

Before being enrolled into the CL65 Synthetic Flight Instructor course, you have to meet following requirements:

  • hold or have held an EASA CPL(A)MPL(A) or ATPL(A)
  • hold or have held CL65 type rating
  • completed 1 500 hours flight time as a pilot on multi-pilot aeroplanes
  • completed the CL65 proficiency check with EASA CL65 TRE within the last 12 months
  • completed, as a pilot or as an observer, within the last 12 months:
    • 3 route sectors on the flight deck of the applicable aircraft type; or
    • 2 line-orientated flight training-based simulator sessions to include 2 flights of at least 2 hours each between 2 different aerodromes, and the associated pre-flight planning and de-briefing;

Teach & learn

The Teaching and Learning module of the SFI CL65 training is called as Part 1 of SFI training course and it is required by FCL.930.TRI(a)(1). This module is about the Training philosophy and Fundamentals of instruction. The module is equal for all EASA instructor certificates. It means if you hold or have held any EASA instructor certificate we will credit the teaching and learning module in full.  The module consists of 25 hours of groundschool and covers following topics:

  • The learning and teaching process
  • Techniques of applied instruction and programme development
  • Training philosophies and Student evaluation and testing
  • Human performance and limitations relevant to flight instruction

Briefings

The technical training comprises of 10 hours. It is a real on-job-training. Its purpose is to refresh Part 1 theoretical topics and CL65 variant-related technical knowledge. You gain an experience in preparation of lesson plans and you will develop of briefing-room instructional skills. The technical training is also integrated into the practical flight instruction lessons of Part 3 by using expanded preflight and postflight briefing sessions. 

 The CL65 type rating theoretical syllabus is used to develop your teaching skills in relation to the CL65 type technical course syllabus.

Simulator

The initial CL65 SFI Training course consists of 10 hours. The content of the simulator training covers a variety of exercises, covering both normal and abnormal operations.  TEM, CRM, and the appropriate use of behavioural markers are integrated throughout the SFI course. The SFI CL65 course is similar to the TRI CL65 when it comes to the training content.
