CB-IR(A) SE training overview

A single-engine competency-based instrument rating flight training course comprises of 40 hours instrument time under instruction, of which up to 25 hours may be in simulator. Up to 30 hours of flight training with instrument instructor may be credited towards the 40 hours. Thus as less as only 10 hours needs to be flown within ProfiPilot Academy to get your full EASA instrument rating for single-engine aeroplanes. The total amount of dual instrument flight training shall not be less than 25 hours, of which at least 10 hours shall be completed in a single-engine aeroplane.

The competency-based Instrument Rating training is followed by the IR Skill test with EASA Instrument Rating Examiner.  The validity of the single-engine Instrument Rating is 1 year. To revalidate your Instrument Rating you need to comply with FCL.625.IR(b).

How to

Before you are enrolled into the CB-IR(A) flight training in ProfiPilot Academy, we are obligated to complete with you the pre-entry assessment. The purpose of pre-entry assessment is to determine the amount of hours credited and to establish your tailored-made training needs. 

We can credit all your instrument flight training with an instructor up to the 30 hours out of 40 required. Your competency-based instrument training may last as less as 10 hours in a single-engine aeroplane at an ProfiPilot Academy. Nevertheless the crediting options in case of CB-IR(A) - SE is quite more complex. Our Senior training consultants will allways provide you with tailored-made information.

If you are a holder of an EASA PPL(A) or CPL(A) and at the same time a holder of valid instrument rating IR(A) endorsed in an ICAO license (e.g. FAA) you may be credited in full towards the competency-based training course provided you have at least 50 hours under IFR as PIC on aeroplanes.

Procedures

The procedural flying part of the competency-based training consists of the pre-flight procedures for IFR flights, including the use of the flight manual and appropriate air traffic services documents for the preparation of an IFR flight plan. You can complete the procedural module with either an instructor outside or inside of ProfiPilot Training. Or even by combination of both.

You will learn to fly procedures and manoeuvres for IFR operation under normal, abnormal, and emergency conditions.

• transition from visual to instrument flight on take-off;
• standard instrument departures and arrivals;
• en route IFR procedures;
• holding procedures;
• instrument approaches to specified minima;
• missed approach procedures; and
• landings from instrument approaches, including circling; in-flight manoeuvres and particular flight characteristics;
