CRI class extension overview

Your Class Rating Instructor privileges are restricted to the class rating in which the instructor assessment of competence with Flight Instructor Examiner was taken. The aim of the CRI class extension training course is to extend your CRI privileges from multi-engine to single-engine single-pilot aeroplane and vice versa. 

The validity of the your Class Rating Instructor certificate stays with your former validity - 3 years. To revalidate your CRI you have to comply with FCL.940.CRI.

Multi-engine

To extend your Class Rating Instructor privileges from single-engine to multi-engine, you need to comply with FCL.905.CRI(c). It means you have to meet the experience requirements of FCL.915.CRI(a):

• 500 hours flight time as a pilot on aeroplanes;
• 30 hours as PIC on the applicable class or type of aeroplane;

In addition, you need to attend 5 hours of flight training which corresponds to the CRI Multi-Engine training. The CRI single-engine to multi-engine extension training completion is followed by the CRI assessment of competence with EASA Flight Instructor Examiner. 

Aerotowing

As a Class Rating Instructor, your privileges are also to provide the training towards the aerotow rating provided you are a holder of the aerotow rating. In order to extend your CRI privileges to teach towards towing the gliders, you need to demonstrate your instructor competency to teach towards the aerotow rating to ProfiPilot Training instructor. There is no need for the instructor assessment of competence. There is no need for the instructor assessment of competence. Upon the completion of the check flight, your aviation authority will endorse your license with CRI aerotow privileges.
