Overview

Cessna 525 Citation Series ICAO to EASA conversion overview

The process of conversion your ICAO Cessna 525 into the EASA Cessna 525 Series is quite more complicated than the other type ratings. Main requirement is - you have to be a holder of a valid EASA CPL(A) or EASA ATPL(A).

The training consists of:

  • on-type simulator session (skill test refresher)
  • Multi-crew Cooperation training course (optional)
  • type rating skill test with EASA Cessna 525 Examiner.

Prerequisites

To convert your ICAO Cessna 525 type rating into EASA licence you have to meet following criteria:

  • hold a valid EASA ATPL(A) or CPL(A) with Class 1 Medical
  • have a valid Cessna 525 type rating endorsed in your ICAO licence
  • have completed at least 500 hours of flight time in Cessna 525 Series
  • be in current flying experience on Cessna 525 Series

 In addition you need to have an experience of at least 200 hours of total flying experience, of which 70 hours as PIC in aeroplanes and hold or have held a multi-engine IR(A) or  comply with one of the following:

  • hold a certificate of satisfactory completion of a course for additional theoretical knowledge undertaken at ProfiPilot Training; or
  • have passed the ATPL(A) theoretical knowledge examinations; or
  • hold, in addition to an EASA licence, an ICAO ATPL(A) or ICAO CPL(A)/IR with theoretical knowledge credit for ATPL(A), issued in accordance with ICAO Annex 1.

Procedure

The procedure to obtain the Cessna 525 type rating into your EASA pilot's license consists of following steps:

  1. Review of your previous on-type experience
  2. undergo simulator skill test refresher at ProfiPilot Training with Cessna 525 Instructor
  3. undertake single-pilot operation training (optional)
  4. pass the C525 skill test with Cessna 525 Type Examiner in simulator
  5. pass the additional C525 skill test items for Single-pilot operation with C525 TRE (optional)
  6. submit all paperwork to the EASA National Aviation Authority (NAA)

Final product

Once obtained, you will become a holder of valid and fully EASA - recognised Cessna 525 type rating. You will be able to fly as a Captain in Cessna 525 series

There are significant differences among the Cessna 525 variants. The oldest straight CJs up to the fully touchscreen equipped CJM2 or CJ3+. To fly different variant of Cessna 525 you need differences training.

Following CE 525 variants constituting into the common C525 typerating:

  • Cessna C525 Citation Jet (CJ)
  • Cessna C525 Citation (CJ1 and CJ1+)
  • Cessna C525A Citation (CJ2 and CJ2+)
  • Cessna C525B Citation (CJ3 and CJ3+)
  • Cessna C525C Citation (CJ4)
  • Cessna C525 Citation M2

What's next

Once you complete your ICAO to EASA Cessna 525 Series type rating you have several options how to expand your privileges further. 

If not done otherwise during the initial conversion, you can extend your privileges to fly the Cessna 525 in either multi-pilot operations or single-pilot operations. EASA requires specific experience, simulator training and checking with Cessna 525 examiner to grant those privileges.

In addition you can become C525 Instructor. If you are in the current flying practice in Cessna 525, you can undertake the C525 TRI training course. You can also operate different variants of Cessna 525. The common type rating endorsement is C525. Although it includes CJCJ1CJ1+CJ2CJ2+, CJ3CJ3+CJ4 and M2 variants, to fly the particular variant you need to undertake the differences training.
