By having the B737 300 - 900 endorsed in your licence you will be allowed to fly all its variants ranging from B737 Classic thru Boeing 737 Classic up to Boeing 737 Max including its business jet models named Boeing 737 BBJ. Although aircraft looks amazingly easy and nice to fly, the Boeing common operational concept has its own areas requiring special attention. Overview

B737CL Type Rating Training course overview

The aim of the Boeing 737 Classic initial type rating training course is to provide you with sufficient theoretical knowledge instruction, FSTD and if required also actual base training to safely operate particular variant constituting into B 737 300 - 900 type rating.

The B737CL Type Rating course consists of following parts:

  • 25:00 hours of MCC-related ground school (optional)
  • 10:00 hours of MCC training completed in B737CL simulator (optional)
  • 37:30 hours of B737CL type-related ground school;
  • 02:30 hours of UPRT ground school
  • 12:00 hours of B737CL fixed-base simulator
  • 32:00 hours training in full-flight simulator of Boeing 737CL;

The Boeing 737CL type rating training course culminates into the B737 Classic skill test in simulator with an EASA B737 300-900 TRE. Upon completion of the licencing skill test so-called base training needs to be completed to apply for the license endorsement.

Prerequisites

Before being enrolled into the Boeing 737 Classic typerating training course, you have to meet following requirements:

  • be a holder of valid Medical Certificate Class 1 
  • be a holder of EASA ATPL(A) for Commander and EASA CPL(A) for co-pilot qualification
  • have valid ATPL(A) theory credit
  • be a holder of multi-crew cooperation certificace or accumulated at least 500 hours in MPO in CAT or
  • hold or have held multi-engine instrument rating
  • be a holder of ICAO English language proficiency

Theory

Boeing 737 Classic theoretical knowledge instruction or so-called B737CL groundschool is split into three phases. Should you are an experienced pilot, we will give you significant credit.

If you are missing MCC training we will provide you with basic MCC theoretical knowledge instruction prior the actual typerating ground school.

The content of typerating training course consists of type-related profile subjects and lasts a bit over 37 hours completed in combination of CBT, self-study and classroom-led sessions. Ground school is delivered by distance-learning means complemented by instructor-led classroom sessions. It is completed by written test comprises of 100 multiple choice questions from the B737 Classic type-related subjects.

In addition to the B737CL type related knowledge, you will receive also the UPRT groundschool lasting approximately 8 hours comprises of following:

  • Aerodynamics, Causes of and contributing factors to upsets
  • Safety review of UPRT accidents, G-load awareness and management
  • Energy management, Flight path management
  • Recognition, System malfunction, High altitude UPRT

Simulator

The simulator part of Boeing 737 Classic type rating course comprises of 32 hours of training focused on type-related handling, procedures and system malfunctions. If you are not a holder of the MCC certificate you will be provided 10 more hours on the top of the simulator training to learn the multi-crew concept philosophy. The simulator training already assumes you have through knowledge, understanding and skills in flying basic IFR procedures. 

You will learn how to manage the engine failure after take-off (EFATO), in-flight engine shutdown (IFESD) and how to land with one engine inoperative (OEI) using the Boeing common operational concept for the particular variant of Boeing 737 Classic.

At the later stage you will be trained to handle the non-normal and emergency procedures including the  A/C handling with different systems malfunctions. This will include emergency flight patterns and the engine failure procedures at various position and situation. You will be able to land the Boeing 737 Classic aircraft just by yourself without any help of other pilot - safely even with one-engine inoperative.

Landings

 

The Boeing 737 Classic typerating is completed by so-called landing training commonly known as base training. The base training in Boeing 737 CL consists of series of landings in the real B737 Classic aeroplane. Depending on your experience, either 4 or 6 landings are completed during the base training.

If you completed more than 500 hours in multi-pilot aeroplanes of similar size and performance, the base training includes at least four landings in Boeing 737 Classic of which at least one has to be a full-stop landing. In all other cases the base training consists of at least six landings in B737CL.
