Basic Instrument Rating Multi Engine

IFR made for general aviation pilots ✓

BIR is a truly  competency-based training approach to the EASA instrument rating. Its duration is entirely up to the ProfiPilot Training with no minimum hours. The Basic Instrument Rating training course is suitable for general aviation pilots and especially aircraft owners

If you have started your training outside of an ProfiPilot Training, we will assess your performance and complete all the modules with you. If you perhaps do not have time or enough resources to complete all modules at the time, we can complete modules one-by-one. The training gives us many options how to train you to proficiency.

Overview

BIR(A) ME training overview

A Multi-engine Basic Instrument Rating course comprises of 4 modules which can be flown in multi-engine aeroplane, in simulator or by combination of both. All four modules of BIR course except the en-route training may be commenced outside but shall be completed at ProfiPilot Training. The basic instrument rating is than very flexible competency-based training course

There is however no flight time required. You only need to be trained to proficiency. It simply means to be good enough to pass the skill test. The core module of instrument flying skills must always be completed first, and after having done so, you may choose which further module to tackle next, within a timescale that suits you. This takes into account the fact that general aviation pilots may often not have the time or financial resources to commit to a more conventional continuous course of training towards the instrument rating.

Flying

The flight instruction towards EASA Basic Instrument Rating comprises the following instrument flight instruction modules flown in single-engine aeroplane. Module 1 has to be taken first and comprises of some kind of basic instrument flying. Modules 2 and 3 can be taken on your own convenience.

  • Module 1 – the core flying training module of flight handling skills by sole reference to instruments;
  • Module 2 – the applied flying training module of IFR departure, holding, 2D and 3D approach procedures;
  • Module 3 – the applied flying training module of en-route IFR flight procedures;
  • Module 4 – the applied flying training module with one engine inoperative (asymmetric instrument approach and go-around procedures)

The simulator may be used for flight instruction towards all BIR modules. Although you will receive training in the aeroplane which will be used for the BIR skill test.

Tailored

If you have started your BIR training outside of ProfiPilot Training (e.g. with an instructor) we will have to complete respective modules with you. We will simply have to make sure you are safe and sound to be signed-off for a skill test. If you have not started your training yet, we will carry on and start the training with you from the scratch.
