Overview

PPL(H) theory course overview

The Private Pilot License theoretical knowledge instruction course consists of approximately 100 hours of instruction. ProfiPilot Training utilizes both - the distance learning and the classroom learning means of the instruction. It all depends on your preference. The PPL(H) groundschool covers aspects related to non-technical skills in an integrated manner, taking into account the particular risks associated with the PPL(H) licence and the activity.

The PPL(H) theoretical course is followed by the PPL(H) written exam in Exam Institute.

Prerequisites

There are no specific prerequisites to be enrolled into the PPL(H) theory. You do not even need to be enrolled into the flight training. You only need to have a basic understanding of math and physics. The rest is on our lecturers.

Groundschool

The PPL(H) ground school instruction covers following subjects

  • Air law,
  • Human performance,
  • Meteorology,
  • Communications, and
  • Navigation.
  • Principles of flight related to helicopters
  • Operational procedures related to helicopters
  • Flight performance and planning related to helicopters
  • Aircraft general knowledge related to helicopters

Completion

Once you have completed the appropriate elements of theoretical knowledge instruction to a satisfactory standard, you will be recommended for the written PPL(H) exam. The PPL(H) theory course is completed by written theoretical knowledge exam in Exam Institute. You have to start your PPL(H) written exam latest 12 months after being recommended by ProfiPilot Training.

The PPL(H) written exam consists in  total of 120 multiple-choice questions covering all the subjects covered during the course. 

To pass the written exam, you have to achieve the score of at least 75 % of each subject. All subjects have to be passed within the period of 18 months counted from the end of the calendar month when you have first attempted an examination.

What's next

Upon completion of your PPL(H) theory, you need to complete your flying training. You can obviously complete those two trainings separately. Upon completion of your PPL(H) theory in ProfiPilot Training, you can complete your flight training anywhere else.  In any case, the theoretical knowledge instruction shall always have been completed before the PPL(H) skill test is taken.

There is only one important date to remember. Theoretical knowledge exam certificate for the issue of a PPL(H) is valid for a period of 24 months. It simply means you have to complete your PPL(H) skill test latest 24 months after completion of your theoretical knowledge exam.
