Tethered flight is the temporary restraint of a free balloon whilst in flight for the purposes of conducting an entire flight at a single location. In other words the hot-air balloon is bonded to the ground. If you want to fly the sight-seeing flights for kids or public at one place, this training is something you need to have endorsed in your Balloon Pilot Licence.
The aim of the tethered balloon flight training course is to provide you with the training to meet necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes for performing the tethered flight in the hot-air balloons.

The BPL tethered flight theoretical knowledge instruction consists of 2 hours of instruction. The course is structured to cover all necessary topics essential for the hot-air balloon tethered flying.

The BPL flight training is a skill-based training lasting approximately 1 hour, with minimum at least 2 take-offs and landings. The tethered flight rating is structured and covers following syllabi:
You as a Balloon Pilot Licence holder can only undertake tethered flights with hot-air balloons if you hold a tethered hot-air balloon flight rating in accordance with BFCL.200. The privileges you gain with attending the tethered hot-air balloon flight rating are to fly the hot-air balloon while bonded to the ground.
