EASA IR privileges on SEP

Question iconQuestion

How to get back IR privileges on my SEP(land)?

I have an ICAO ATPL(A) and ICAO instrument rating with CATIIIb privileges. My flight time is 11500 hours of instrument flight time. In addition I have a EASA-issued PPL(A) and want to get my instrument rating endorsed in my EASA PPL(A) licence.

The situation is very easy. You just need to pass the IR(A) skill test with an EASA IRE(A) in single-engine aircraft. Provided your EASA PPL(A) contains current and valid SEP(land) and you also meet the theoretical knowledge requirements (exams) to issue the Instrument rating in your EASA licence.

If you are holding current Instrument Rating on single-engine aeroplanes, you can keep your IR-SE current by its revalidation by experience. If you do at least 3 Instrument approaches on Single-engine class rating (such as instructor in Cessna 172), your IR-SE privileges might be revalidated by EASA TRE revalidating your multi-pilot type rating.

This is however not possible for renewal of your IR-SE privileges or if you do not meet the recency requirements (3 approaches / 12 months)
