Single-Engine ICAO to EASA conversion overview

The process of conversion your ICAO Single Engine rating into the EASA SEP Land class rating is straight forward. You need to be a holder of an EASA licence with minimum required experience. The rest is on us.

Prerequisites

Before being enrolled into the SEP Land EASA conversion course, you have to meet general requirements such as:

  • be a holder of valid Medical Certificate Class 1 or Class 2
  • be a holder of an EASA flight crew licence PPL(A), CPL(A) or ATPL(A)
  • be a holder of an ICAO license (e.g. FAA) with valid and current single-engine SEP(land) class rating
  • have an experience of min 100 hours on single-engine land aeroplane

Procedure

The procedure to obtain the SEP Land class rating into your EASA pilot's license consists of following steps:

  1. Review of your previous on-type experience
  2. undergo an aircraft training - SEP Land skill test refresher
  3. undergo the SEP Land differences training or familiarization (optional)
  4. pass the SEP Land skill test with EASA CRE SEP Land
  5. submit all paperwork to the EASA National Aviation Authority (NAA)

Completion

Once obtained, you will become a holder of valid and fully EASA - recognised SEP Land class rating. You will be able to fly as a pilot-in-command any single-engine piston aeroplane up to MTOW of 5700kg with reciprocating engines. 

There are many aeroplane types constituting into common EASA SEP Land class rating, such as:

  • Diamond: DA20 or DA40
  • Piper: PA28
  • Tecnam: Sierra, Echo
  • Cessna: C152, C172

Privileges

Once you complete your ICAO to EASA SEP Land class rating conversion you have several options how to expand your privileges further. 

You can easily become an single-engine instructor. EASA recognises so-called Class Rating Examiner for SEP Land class rating. This is 3 hours long training course will give you some limited instructional privileges. To become full EASA Flight Instructor, you need to undertake a bit more longer training. You can just enjoy the beauty of flying with your friends and family.

To make a bit more fun you can also extend your SEP Land privileges with additional ratings such as Aerotowing or Aerobatics.
